Learning How to Live in Your Truth

In this time of instant celebrity, everybody is looking for a quick way to get noticed. People are willing to expose themselves and their personal lives using every public forum available to them. Places like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, You Tube, and all other social media have no shortage of material for people to view, comment and share.

It appears that everyone wants to give the illusion that they are happy, successful, wealthy, and spiritual as well as any other adjective that will spawn more readers and likes.

However, if you begin to look a little deeper you will find that a lot of people are becoming increasingly dissatisfied and unhappy with their ordinary lives. The trick for most of us is learning how to live in our authentic truth and not get trapped by the lies. What most of us really want is to be accepted and recognized for who we are, not for whom people think we are.

The real question becomes, what does it really mean to live in your own truth?

First, you have to know what your real truth is. Is it what you really believe or is it a copy of someone else’s truth? It might take a little time and a lot of soul searching to find it, but once you know it, no one can take it away from you.

The second thing is to learn how to listen and accept good advice from those who have your best interest at heart. Readily admit when you are wrong and be willing to make the necessary course adjustments as needed to accomplish your goals.

Third, don’t get caught up in the trappings of life just because it appears to be working for someone else. You must understand that what seems to be working for another may not work for you; just like your path may not work for someone else.

If it doesn’t feel right to you, it’s probably not right for you. Never allow the judgment of others to over-ride your own judgment because you are ultimately the one who has to live with the consequences of your decision.

Therefore, always make sure the values you undertake are ones you can explain and defend. It should be something you are willing to stand up for when the going gets tough.

As I continue to grow and evolve, I am learning how to accept and understand my own truth.

Living in my truth may not work for you, just as living in your truth may not work for me, but what it means is that I must know who I am and what I want out of life.

Choosing to make decisions that feel right for me is important, but I must be willing to admit when I have made a mistake. It’s the ability to be who I am and not allow others to make me become someone I don’t want to become.

It’s okay to follow good examples, but I don’t want to be unduly influenced to be someone I am not, thus living a life of regret. I want to be honest enough to admit my mistakes without blaming others for the choices I’ve made and be brave enough to try again until I get it right.

As you think about who you are and what you want out of life, how have you been able to live in your truth in a world that celebrates the false over originality?
